Kurt practically bounced up and down as he waited for Blaine to finish getting dressed. They needed to go now, or miss their reservation. So the moment Blaine was back in the bedroom, Kurt quickly placed the scarf around the shorter boy’s eyes. “Now we have to floo…I probably should have done this in front of the fireplace” That had been a dumb move on his part, but oh well.
After quickly guiding Blaine through the apartment and using floo powder, Kurt stepped out into a hotel room. Looking around, he smiled to himself. Back in America and England, it was Friday night. Which meant that nobody had to wake up early tomorrow, they had all weekend to spend together. And this was how they’d do it. Kurt had already packed bags…sometimes having two places came in handy, since Blaine had things at the New York apartment he wouldn’t have realized were missing all week.
But the room was for later, right now he had to get them down to the restaurant. Taking Blaine to the elevator, they were soon downstairs and entering through the doors. He finally removed the blindfold, revealing a stunning traditional Japanese restaurant to his husband. “Watashi wa Hummel. Yoyaku shite imasu” He informed the woman behind the counter, using the only two phrases he’d taught himself in order to make this easier. The lady answered back with words Kurt didn’t understand, but he assumed they meant ‘This way please,’ and they were then lead to their small room and table. She then placed two menus in front of them and left. Kurt had talked to them ahead of time and, even though it was morning here in Japan, they were going to let them order sushi. He’d had to call a few places before someone was willing to bend the rules for them.
"Wha-, Kurt!" Blaine laughed as his husband blind folded him. "Kurt, what in the name of Merlin are you doing? We are going to eat, do you not want me to go there again without you or something?" Blaine asked as he let Kurt lead him. It wasn’t too odd of Kurt to do something like this but it had been a while and Blaine wasn’t sure what on earth it could be for. There wasn’t any special occasion and Blaine was sure he wasn’t forgetting an anniversary, at least he hoped.
Then again Blaine was pretty amazing at remembering dates, so he wasn’t sure it was any of that. Regardless, this was probably going to be amazing. One thing Blaine knew for sure about Kurt was that he never half-assed things when he did them. Kurt Hummel-Anderson always did things above and beyond, with his own personal touch. It was one of the many reasons Blaine loved him.
"You’re being very mysterious Mr.Hummel-Anderson," Blaine commented as he was lead around. Kurt was sort of man handling him but Blaine wasn’t totally opposed to it.
When it seemed that their journey had come to its destination Blaine straightening up and waited for Kurt to remove the scarf. When he finally did Blaine was astounded to find out that they were in what looked like a beautiful Japanese restaurant. The girl that greeted them hadn’t even spoken in English. “You found this place in New York?” Blaine asked as he looked around while they were walked to their little room. There weren’t many others in the restaurant, which really surprised Blaine.
"This is amazing Kurt."
Kurt was almost finished getting dressed when Blaine finally stopped him. The momentary contact made him jump, still slightly on edge from his flashback, but he calmed down after only a couple seconds. He kissed Blaine back before rushing to the mirror to do his hair.
“I’m not going to hurt myself” He replied as he sprayed his hair into place before looking back to Blaine. “We need to go now. But you’re going to have to wear a blindfold.” He thought of the blinding spell, but then remembered his relationship with it and forced the thought from his head. That spell was never going to be used around Kurt again.
Opening the dresser, he brought one of his nice scarves out. “I’m going to put this over your eyes now. Then when I know it’s safely on, we’ll go to the restaurant. No asking questions. I’ll refuse to answer them”
As much as Blaine wanted to argue he knew there was no point to it. When Kurt got something into his brain it was going to stay there until you either complied or were completely unable to do so. Blaine chose to just comply. He stared at Kurt and shook his head with a smile.
"Alright eager beaver. Just let me change into something a little bit better. I’ll be quick I promise." he said and then walked into the closet, much smaller than their one at the cottage but still capable of housing a person. Blaine quickly picked something a bit more dressy and changed quickly then ran a hand through his hair, which was still somewhat styled from work. The gel that once graced his hair now forgotten.
"I’m ready to be visually impaired for love." Blaine told Kurt and stood in the middle of the room, eyes closed and arms spread out.
It was okay now. Everything would be okay. Now that Kurt had made himself aware of this fact, all he could do was refuse to dwell on it. The residual anxiety wasn’t strong, and he’d forget about it soon enough. But then he felt a hand on his back, and a new round of fear shot through his body and caused him to jump. Instantly, he spun his head around to see Blaine. It felt like Kurt’s heart was beating out of his chest, but the visual of Blaine helped him calm down again. He leaned into Blaine, taking a deep breath before responding. “Yeah, I’m okay.” He answered before rubbing his eyes. It was hard to not go into detail on it, because he didn’t want Blaine to blame himself for scaring Kurt. “I just had a moment. I probably had a nightmare that I can’t remember or something. I need to get up and move though.”
Getting out of bed, he stretched and looked at the time. His eyes instantly grew wide. “How is it six already!?” He exclaimed before running to his closet for a change of clothes. His audition clothes were nice, but not what he wanted to wear tonight. Quickly hunting down a nice outfit to change into, he threw everything onto the bed. “I don’t want us to miss our reservations” Even though he was getting dressed in a frenzy, he still found time to look at his husband. Kurt had told him nothing of their plans. He’d actually lied to make it sound like he wanted to check out a low quality dump. But ‘reservations’ was the only hint Blaine was getting for what Kurt had in mind.
"Kurt I’m…" Blaine sat back baffled at his husband’s sudden launch off of the bed. He stared at him for a second completely baffled not knowing what in the world he could be so rushed about.
"Kurt," he stood up and walked over to his husband stopping him and holding him by the shoulders, "what in the world is your rush? I really doubt that little place you mentioned would get packed and if it does we could go somewhere else and then go there some other night. You’re going to hurt yourself." Blaine laughed kindly and then kissed Kurt. He hadn’t done that in a while, so he did it again.
This time he pulled away and just stared at Kurt for a moment, he wasn’t sure what else to do now except let him do whatever it was he was going to. Blaine knew that even with the advice he had just given Kurt wouldn’t listen to him. Kurt ran on his own schedule and Blaine just went along with it.
Being away from Blaine was hard, but Kurt was doing okay. Not only was he in New York, following his dreams. He was also independent and functioning. For a while, he hadn’t been there. Though he tried not to think much about those events, he knew how long it took him just to feel okay going to the store. And here he was, essentially living by himself in the city. He didn’t take how it felt for granted.
It didn’t change the fact he missed Blaine like crazy. Ever since they’d met, they were inseperable. First when they were students-for a time, as best friends before they became something more-and then they began living together. Following Kurt’s kidnapping and everything that was warped in his mind for a few weeks after that, they were constantly together. Suddenly living in different countries, having two completely separate lives and sleep schedules, was strange. He couldn’t imagine if they had to do it the traditional muggle way, and he’d gained quite a bit of respect for people in long distance relationships. He wasn’t quite sure how this would all work out in the long run, but he tried not to think about that at all. They’d cross bridges as they came to them. They’d make things work.
Kurt, baby The voice he heard was familiar, but he kept his eyes closed. He was slowly starting to wake up, but maybe if he pretended he wasn’t then he could keep his eyes closed for a few more moments. He could only enjoy closing his eyes when he was waking up, and it made him harder to wake up than he’d been this time a year ago. Wake up
His thoughts suddenly jumped to another time and place. A voice much less friendly than His husband’s. Kurt, paralyzed on the cold, stone ground just trying not to make his injuries any worse.
Gasping, Kurt suddenly sat straight up in bed and looked around. He was in his New York bedroom, he was safe. He tried to steady his breathing, mentally telling himself that he was okay. TI wasn’t that any part of him felt like he was being tortured, but the sudden trigger of the random terrible event left him upset and he needed to calm himself down. Rubbing his own arms, his breaths quickly went from rapid and short, to moderate and shaky, to calm and even. He felt okay now
Kurt seemed to be refusing to wake up, which was fine with Blaine. If he didn’t want to wake up he would leave him for a while longer. He was just about to get off of the bed and leave him to sleep when Kurt bolted upright. Blaine only narrowly missed their heads colliding by leaning back. Things were a lot better now with Kurt’s mental state, it had been a while since any major freak out so Blaine’s heart rate immediately picked up. He looked over Kurt’s form for a second making sure he was okay.
Once he was sure Kurt wasn’t hurt or hurting himself on accident he sat up and gently rubbed his back.
"Kurt, love, it’s okay it’s just me. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to startle you like that." he very carefully leaned forward and wrapped his arm around Kurt and kissed his cheek.
"Are you alright?" Blaine asked as he leaned back and stared at Kurt, hoping that he was okay.
Kurt was asleep the moment his head hit the pillow. In the excitement of his auditions, he’d been pretty restless for the previous couple of nights. They weren’t his famous all nighters Blaine scolded him for, he hadnt done any of those yet.
Most of the time, Kurt was a light sleeper. While he was mostly over his attack (excluding his bad days, but those were rare), one thing that was changed was the fact that his body never totally wanted to surrender to the idea of letting his guard completely down. It wasnt something he’d been aware of prior to spending some of his nights sleeping alone. He slept better when Blaine was there, it made him feel safe.
But the lack of sleep had him completely knocked out this afternoon. So when Blaine climbed into their bed and spoke, Kurt’s only response was to turn to his other side, so he was facing Blaine and sigh contently. “I dont want to get up yet, dad.” He pouted before returning to his peaceful sleep.
Blaine laughed softly to himself and then pulled Kurt closer to him. He kissed his forehead and then leaned down and whispered “No not dad, I would suggest daddy but I don’t think either of us would ever get turned on by that.” Blaine laughed softly and then pulled Kurt close to him. He breathed in contently and smiled. It felt like it had been so long since he had seen Kurt that he just wanted to take this all in.
Being away from Kurt was harder than Blaine thought it would ever be. Then again they had been through so much that being apart did feel strange. After the attack, and Kurt recovering, they had spent every single day together. They had become a little codependent but it was understandable in that case. Now they were being pulled apart for some time and it was hard but they were slowly getting used to it. Although Blaine doubted they would ever be used to, or want to, be away from each other.
In theory Blaine could quite his job and move to New York with Kurt full time, but Blaine liked his job and although he knew that he had enough family wealth, that not even his grandchildren would ever have to work, he wanted to earn his own bit of money. It was just how he was. His mother, even now, still worked from time to time.
Before Blaine new it he was blinking his eyes to wake up. It had been so peaceful and dark in the room that Blaine hadn’t even noticed he had fallen asleep. After a moment of reorienting himself he looked down and Kurt and kissed him.
"Kurt, baby, wake up." he whispered and kissed him again.
Kurt was the happiest he’d been in a long time. New York was everything he’d ever dreamt it would be, and then some. And it didn’t hurt that he was finally making his dreams come true. Unfortunately that was more than he could say about Rachel, but he was working on getting his best friend to follow her dreams. One of the downsides to the city that never sleeps, however, was how little time he’d had to spend with Blaine recently. Kurt was always running around, auditioning for shows and taking a lot of lessons to better his chances of getting in NYADA when he auditioned in just over a month. Kurt had been able to audition for a few shows, though he had yet to get a chorus spot, let alone a real role.
Today had been a huge day. Well not huge, but pretty big to Kurt. His first call back ever. It was for a new musical, and it was even one of the lead roles. He was pretty sure, judging by how things had gone at the audition that they were going in a different direction but he was still optimistic. This wasn’t an easy business, after all, and he hadn’t gotten any formal training yet.
Now that everything was over, Kurt wanted to go home and lay down for a bit. He had plans, but Blaine had no idea. He thought they were just having a normal dinner, like they did most nights, at a new restaurant Kurt had found. He’d claimed it was a hole-in-the-wall place, and that he was dying to try everything the city had to offer. It was true enough, just not tonight….No, they’d be far away from New York this evening.
When he finally arrived to his apartment, he shrugged his coat off and hung it up before feeding his fish. With Patti at the cottage most of the time, he felt like this place also needed a pet. And so he bought Madonna and Lady Gaga, keeping with the theme of Patti’s name. Once he did both of those things, he tossed himself onto the bed in the corner bedroom and drifted to sleep quickly.
Although Blaine was relieved that Kurt was much happier now in New York he couldn’t help but feel a little lonely. He was used to just walking to Kurt’s classroom whenever he had a free moment. Now when he passed by the Muggle studies room he didn’t even want to look at it. The new professor was lovely but everything that was once Kurt in that room was long gone. Even the students seemed different with Kurt gone. It was for the best, Blaine knew that. Kurt was never meant to be a teacher, he was meant to perform. Blaine couldn’t be selfish like that, this was what Kurt wanted and needed.
The time difference was another big obstacle. Blaine would always have to leave far before Kurt was even awake just to make it back on time. Then when it was time for Blaine to get off of work Kurt was usually just about to start his day.
Some nights when Blaine knew that Kurt had some big audition to do the next morning or an early lesson he would stay at the cottage. Kurt’s pillow, which smelled so so much like him, was the only thing that kept Blaine company those nights.
The past week had been hard, the two had barely seen each other and it was becoming a little hard on Blaine. The only night he had really seen him had been on his birthday, when he had taken the whole day off. McGonagall understood but she said that he couldn’t do it again because of the upcoming final exams, O.W.Ls and N.E.W.Ts. Blaine loved teaching but it was also keeping him from being able to see his husband very often.
That day after getting off of work Blaine made his way straight to the cottage, only stopping in Hogsmeade to buy a few things. Once he was at the cottage he quickly changed out of his robes and into normal clothes. It was still pretty early in New York so Blaine figured Kurt wouldn’t be there.
He floo’d to the apartment and then set the small cheesecake cupcakes in the counter. Once he was sure he placed them somewhere Kurt wouldn’t find them he made his way to the room, only to find his husband fast asleep.
Blaine smiled to himself and then took off his shoes and crawled into the bed next to Kurt very gently and wrapped his arm around him. “Hey sleeping beauty” Blaine said quietly so that he would not alarm Kurt.

Kurt looked into Blaine’s eyes as he tried to reassure Kurt it would be okay. He didn’t have to try very hard though, once he explained it would only be a few seconds. Kurt could handle that short of a time frame, he did it almost every day without thinking…it was any longer than that when he started having problems. So he slowly nodded his head in agreement. “Okay…” He mumbled, taking a deep breath. This wouldn’t be too bad, he hoped.
Kurt had no idea what was so amazing he had to close his eyes for it, and how Blaine seemed to think closing his eyes would be worth the trouble it could cause. But he really was going to have to just trust his boyfriend on this one. Standing up, Kurt took Blaine’s hand. “Let’s go”
Blaine smiled at Kurt and then kissed him. “Thank you, love.” he said and then straightened himself out and wrapped his arms around Kurt. He kissed him once more before walking him to the fireplace. The second they got there Blaine grabbed a handful of powder and then stepped in with Kurt. He kissed him once more before asking him to close his eyes and then threw the powder in. His arms were tightly wrapped around Kurt.
Within seconds they stood in an empty apartment. Blaine quickly stepped them out of the fireplace and then towards a window that was facing Central park and the city. He kissed Kurt and told him to open his eyes.
"As sad as I am that you are gone from Hogwarts I know that this is where you need to be. I may not be able to put you on the stage right away, where you belong, but I can bring you a lot closer. This is where you need to be, and where you need to be is where I need to be. I love you. I hope you like this." Blaine told Kurt with a smile.

Kurt tilted his head as Blaine said there was another gift, but he let it go when Blaine unwrapped his presents. Kurt had a talent for shopping for other people, so he knew his husband would love the things that had been bought for him, but he was still excited to see how he reacted to each one. The couldron cakes had been a funnier gift…Kurt was strict on his organic diet-only breaking it for a handful of foods, and only then if they were given to him as a gift or if he was upset. Cake, cheesecake and buckeyes were known to do wonders for his mood. He wouldn’t mind Blaine eating them occassionally, but most times he came home with them, he came home with a lot of them. And Kurt wanted his husband to live past the age of fifty.
Kurt smiled at how much he liked the coupons. They were a last minute decision he’d printed off the internet, but they were good. The CD collection had taken quite a bit of time, since he had to make a list of all of Blaine’s broadway soundtracks and crosscheck it with a list of musicals Blaine either liked or needed to be introduced to because they were perfection.
Kurt was smiling as Blaine talked about how Kurt needed to trust him. Well, of course he did. Kurt had as much trust in Blaine as a person could have…but that smile faded when Blaine asked him to close his eyes. It was one of the only major signs left of Kurt’s traumas earlier in the year. Closing his eyes for more than a few seconds at a time was more than a little frightening. It made him feel like he was locked in the basement again, and that was before the added fact that Blaine would be touching him during this whole thing. Kurt looked down for a few seconds before staring back up at Blaine, shaking his head ‘no’ slightly
Blaine looked at Kurt and then tilted his head up with his fingers. “Hey, look I know it’s going to be a bit scary but it’s only for a few seconds and I know that you can do it. I will be right with you and talking the whole time. It will be worth it I promise. I just want you to be really surprised when you see it.” Blaine kissed Kurt and smiled at him gently. He rubbed his arm with his own free arm.
He knew it was going to be hard to convince Kurt to close his eyes but he knew that Kurt could do it. It was only a few seconds and in the end he knew that Kurt would love his gift enough to put it out of his mind.
the gift in question was really a gift for the both of them in a way but it was more for Kurt. It was something for Kurt’s new life. Something that had taken a lot to hide from Kurt, he hadn’t wanted to hide it but he wanted it to be the last big thing he did for Kurt’s semi-retirement. Blaine knew that Kurt would approve of it. Blaine had spent months looking for it. He had even gone so far as to take Burt with him to look.

“I’m not grumpy!” Kurt argued, furrowing his eyebrows and crossing his arms at the same time. “I’m just impatient. I want to open presents!” He whined the last sentence, not even caring he was starting to sound like a kid. The best thing about Christmas was getting new things, and the second best thing was watching your husband’s face as you gave him something amazing. Usually Blaine managed to outdo him on the presents front, but Kurt was pretty sure he had done better than Blaine because he’d been planning his gift since their engagement.
In his excitement, Kurt accidentally tied Blaine’s bowtie a little too tightly, and frowned as his was of apologizing. Clearly it worked since Blaine took his hand and they began down the stairs, Kurt nearly bouncing in excitement. Kurt listened to Blaine talk to the animals, who Kurt hadn’t even thought to buy gifts for.
“First round of presents?” Kurt repeated with a raised eyebrow. He only had one round of presents for Blaine. Two if he divided up the small ones and the last one. Oh well, he was still going to win. Kurt didn’t know why this was a competition to him, it just was. Kurt carefully opened each present, grinning and holding it up to his body as he did so. “I don’t understand” He grinned back at Blaine. “How is it you know what to buy for me when you dress like that?” As soon as he said it he realized how mean it sounded. “Sorry, that came out wrong…I love them. Thank you!”
As Blaine explained the card, Kurt glanced down at it. This was even better than the clothes. “Oh my god!” He exclaimed, clutching the card and examining every little detail about it. “I can’t believe you….I love you” Once he was finally put together enough, he began pushing Blaine’s presents towards him. “I didn’t get you as many things as you got me…” He trailed off in fake insecurity.
(The last one comes with a collection of Broadway soundtracks)
Blaine laughed at Kurt’s comment and then shook his head at him. His husband would always be judging his sense of fashion, that was something that would never change but Blaine loved it. He liked that Kurt still picked on him. It was very them. If they always agreed on things then it wouldn’t be them. Kurt picked on Blaine and Blaine just laughed and kissed Kurt, that was how things worked. It was how they were and always had been. Ever since they had gotten together and Kurt had teased Blaine about how properly he wore his uniform when all the other students would add their own personal touches to it, that and his hair.
"Well I am glad you liked them, but you have one more gift." Blaine said and then smiled at Kurt. He then grabbed the presents that his husband pushed his way. Blaine loved the amount of thought that Kurt always put into his gifts. They were always simple and very creative. Each year topped the next.
As Blaine opened his first gift he looked up at Kurt and then laughed. He leaned forward and kissed Kurt. Cauldron cakes, perfect especially when Kurt had been teasing him about how much he ate those. Which had started when they were just friends.
The next gift had Blaine grinning at Kurt. “Well, Mr.Hummel-Anderson it looks like I will be using one of these very shortly.” he grinned and then put down the little book of love coupons.
The next gift was quite a bit larger. Blaine looked over and Kurt with a curious expression and then opened the gift. when he finally got it all open he looked up at Kurt and smiled. “Kurt this is the best. Thank you so so much.” He got up and then went over to Kurt and wrapped his arms around him and kissed him.
"Now, for your next gift I am going to need you to trust me a lot because I am going to ask you to close your eyes. I’ll wrap my arms around you, because we will need to floo. Are you okay with that?" Blaine asked and looked right at Kurt.
Christmas Time || Klaine
Kurt was really looking forward to Christmas. Not only was it their first time celebrating as husbands, but it was their first time really celebrating it in the cottage. This time last year, Kurt had fallen ill and wasn’t up to doing a lot. He spent almost all of Christmas Eve bedridden and pissed Blaine off Christmas Day by floo’ing to Ohio despite not being completely over being sick. But this year, he was at a hundred percent. After visiting his family in the morning, he went back to the cottage.
Kurt hadn’t been looking for presents, so he didn’t know what they were. Just like Blaine didn’t know the presents Kurt had for him. Nothing was going to go wrong today. Quite simply, it just wasn’t allowed.
As he sat in front of the tree, trying to hid his impatience about wanting to open presents, he stared at the perfume bottle ornament he’d made when he was eight. It held a lot of memories of his first Christmas without his mom, and that day thirteen years ago was the first time he’d truly smiled. It had been months after his mom’s death.
After a few minutes of reminiscing, he decided to go upstairs and see what Blaine was doing. If Kurt waited any longer, he was going to burst open and die. Quickly climbing the stairs (Katy following closely behind to see what the excitement was), he opened the door to his room. Katy rushed ahead of him to say hi to Blaine, her front paws resting against him so she could stand on her hind legs and look up at him. Kurt sat on the bed for a moment until Blaine asked for help with his bowtie. “I’ve been ready for the last twenty minutes. What’s taking you so long? Santa has a strict 30-day return policy, so you should hurry up instead of taking until February” He scrunched his face up before walking over to Blaine and tying his accessory. “There…can we open presents now?”
Blaine was surprised to find that Kurt was already ready, and not in his closet. He really needed to keep better track of where his husband had gone when he needed him. This could result in another disaster, like Astoria’s wedding when they had almost been late. Kurt was muttering the whole time about how distracted Blaine was after hitting him over the head with the nearest thing which luckily was a small, paperback book.
At that moment Kurt looked like he was about to do the same. “Sorry, sorry I wanted to look nice. Jeez, grumpy calm down. It’s Christmas, your gifts are not going to run away from you I promise.” Blaine laughed and then chocked a little. “But your husband might if you try to strangle him.” Blaine laughed and then loosened his bowtie a bit. He stepped forward, placed his hands on either side of Kurt and then kissed him. “Deep breaths. I promise you, you wont need to return any of the gifts I got you. I know you better than anyone else.” Blaine smiled and then stepped back. He grabbed Kurt’s hand and then lead him downstairs.
"Hey Katy kat. I got you gifts too." Blaine said when they reached the living room and Katy was jumping around. Patty slinked out from under the couch suddenly. "You too, even if you hate me." Blaine said and then turned to Kurt. "So, who shall go first? I think I will give you your first round of presents first." Blaine said with a grin.
He turned Kurt around and then turned him back around after the last sound of something dropping faded. All of Kurt’s gifts now lay under the tree wrapped in white wrapping paper that had little red bowties on it. Blaine smiled at Kurt and then pushed them towards him and sat on the couch to see Kurt open them all.
"And there is also this, which I couldn’t wrap really." Blaine said and handed Kurt a card that was wrapped up. "That is a certificate for you to design your own pair of doc martins." Blaine said happily.
